Unusual Engagement Ring

Why do people always go for diamonds for engagement rings?

There’s so much choice out there. I love the range and choice of colour that is available in gemstones. Many people opt for classic white faceted Diamonds as this is what the market tells us we want. White Diamonds are hard wearing and they do have a sparkling quality, but I sometimes feel they are just all the same. So lets take a look at some other ideas

Many stones have different qualities, some are not as hard wearing as a white Diamond, and sometimes can be more fragile. However, I feel that all jewellery should be worn with a little care. The ideal would be that rings are taken off whilst doing housework, garden, DIY and the like. Most rings should not be bashed, sprayed with chemicals or dirt. So if in doubt take them off and put them somewhere safe!

My favourite gemstones offer a rainbow of colour choices, Tourmalines, Sapphires and Rubies cover most colour options. If you don’t want a colour then why not look at a White Sapphire or a Moissanite? I’m also very much in favour of a cabochon gem cut too. Cabochon comes from the French word ‘Caboche’ meaning small dome. Cabochon stones are cushion shaped or ‘domed’. Some are then top faceted called rose cuts just to confuse! If you really want to stick with a Diamond why not look at something with colour, a Champagne Diamond, or Salt & Pepper Diamond with grey and black inclusions. They really do give a little more interest to your ring.

I’m happy to discuss all ring commissions in a face to face consultation or via video call. Most of my suppliers will send out gems on approval if I don’t have your exact wish in stock.
