What to expect
We welcome all abilities. Most basic techniques are covered within the first few classes and can then be explored by the individual. More complex skills can be introduced, including stone setting, charcoal casting, box making, surface texturing and reticulation. All classes are design led, and the individual should steer their own learning to achieve their personal goals.
We have a maximum of five students in a session, each student works individually rather than on a tutor led project, allowing students to work at their own pace and also enabling beginners and those with some knowledge to work comfortably within the same group, which has many learning benefits. I’m very happy to advise on the purchase of tools and materials, and can also arrange visits from gemstone suppliers, and trips to trade fairs.
I believe that a jeweller cannot be proficient in every skill and technique involved in jewellery making, so I would expect students to use specialist craftspeople for things like casting, lapidary work, engraving and I do not teach enameling.
Please feel free to bring your own tools, sketching equipment and plenty of enthusiasm.
Group fortnightly classes cost £150 for six classes. Gift vouchers are available.
This cost does not include materials, which can be bought from me or purchased by yourself.
One-to-one classes and arranged small group session costs depend on the number of students attending, but is approx. £20 per hour per student for up to 3 participants, for up to 4 hours.
Special workshop sessions
I have recently started doing sessions for special events.
You can come with a group of friends (Max 6) and spend three hours making a piece of jewellery. Its a lovely way to spend a morning, afternoon or evening. The cost does depend on how many participants are involved and what materials you use. It could work out to as little as £25 per person, plus £10 each for materials.
You can bring your own refreshments, but no alcohol can be consumed during the workshop session.
Looking for something different for younger people?
Try something new. Come and make a piece of jewellery. Not only will the group learn new skills, they will all have a personal momento to take home and wear.
The workshop sessions are designed specifically to cater for the age of the young person. The group will all work on a similar project, and be guided and assisted by me. I require at least one adult to participate along side the group (Max 6)
The cost of a two hour session is £20, plus approx. £7-£10 for materials.
